a thumbs up to chuck hagel's nomination for defense secretary. it clears the way for hagel's likely confirmation to that cabinet position. this is "cnn newsroom." i'm suzanne malveaux. we start with this, the blame game over those forced spending cuts heating up now. so is the political trash talk. in a news conference, a little while ago, john boehner accused the president of playing politics. >> the president has been traveling all over the country and today going down to newport news in order to use our military men and women as a prop in yet another campaign rally to support his tax hikes. now the american people know, the president gets more money they're just going to spend it. >> not to be outdone, house minority leader nancy pelosi fired back at republicans over the cuts. known in washington as sequestration. >> republicans say they're kicking the can down the road. i don't think they're kicking the can down the road. i think they're nudging the potato across the table with their nose. most don't know what the world sequester means. sequestration equals unemployment. sequest
